Dear Campfire

Thanks for making me warm.

You hold me tightly,

Wrap me in a blanket,

And give me hot cocoa

Or tea

(with two sugars).

Thanks for being beautiful.

A weird thing to thank you for, I know,

But you are absolutely radiant.

Your determined flame is so strong,

Not even a tidal wave could put you out.

And I think that's pretty.

Thanks for making me smile,

Whether intentionally or not.

I smile around you,

More than I smile around anyone else,

Which is a lot.

Thanks for making me feel safe,

Around you I’m fireproof.

I could walk through the gullet of hell,

And come out the other side unscathed,

Because you’re the golden light

At the end of the tunnel.

Dear Campfire,

Thanks for being there,

Thanks for caring,

Thanks for asking how my day was.

Thanks for loving me as much as I love you.

Which is a lot.
